Ebrahim + Khairunnisa,

A Honeymoon in Turkey.

Ebrahim, one of my very very good friends for nearly 8 years now recently got married a couple of weeks ago and i am very very very happy for him!

i am very honoured really to be able to take photos of them, especially on their honeymoon (dont worry i didnt crash them the whole time!) but really, i am sooooo happy to take these photos for them! alhamdulillah.

and also they’re so easy to work with! (good job guys!)

anw, turkey has really been AMAZING. i am in love with this country. i never thought i would love it this much, but i really do. the people are so warm and friendly, the food is good, there are mosques everywhere (its really amazing when you hear several azans going on at the same time!), it has so much history and of course, it is so so so beautiful.

and insyaAllah i would like to bring my parents here one day, and of cource not forgetting my wife insyaAllah for my honeymoon! (HAHA doa for me to find a good wife that will be the coolness to my eyes first!)

the thing is, i only spent a week there, which is really reallllllly short, but it was enough to make it like it a whole lot, especially cappadocia! it was a beautiful old town, with fairy chimneys all around, very relaxed atmosphere with not many people at all, and of course i got to stay in a cave room!

i’ll post more photos of turkey when im free, but i was too excited to work on these photos before i wanted to do anything else.

i hope you guys like this set as much as i loved being a part of it.

with love,
Haikal Aziz

berlin,

now my favourite city in germany.

where do i start! i was there for 4 days and it was still too short, there were so many things i have not seen or do yet. i had tours with the company called sandeman, quite famous all over europe and it was really worth while.

all the history lessons from 10 years ago came back, and berlin was so full of it. berlin was really interesting, and a very important part of german and human history.

learning again about the nazis and hitler, his rise, his fall, and visiting the concentration camps.. it was really an eye opener. the camps were huge! i never knew it would be that wide and huge.

the berlin wall, the one on the east side was really awesome man. all the nicely done works of art! i wish i could show them all to you guys!

and i like how germany does not try to hide any of these things. what they use these instead is to teach their citizens, especially more for the younger generation that these values by the nazis of racism especially, or these acts of violence and torture, is something really serious. and that everyone should learn from these past horrors.

i met up with marco, we met in krabi doing the phiphi island tours 2 years ago while i was traveling in south east asia, and also when he came to singapore. i was shocked when he pulled over with an audi A8!

i was like WHOAAAA!!! the car is so cool. ah i should not start with the car, this post will just go on and on! hahah! anw he showed me around, places i didnt have time to go and ended up at a nice korean restaurant in town to meet up with his friends just to chill and talk and have their dinner.

berlin was good, i really like it. i would really love to visit it again soon, but i’ll see my plans!

ok das ist alle! tschuss!

Mercedes-Benz Museum,

Stuttgart.

this is probably the best museum i have ever been to in my life. it was like a 5 star museum.

the whole building was awesome, all eight stories of it. the cement walls, the cool lifts, the way the space was designed, the free audio guides which you just point at whatever you wanna know, press a button and you can choose what you want to hear, the beautiful beautiful cars, the lights.. everything really.

it was handicapped friendly, you find the clean toilets easily, they have a HUGE timeline of important events that happened since mercedes-benz was created until now (which you can see in the photo with the long walkway and panels on the walls) (and the timeline starts at the top at level 8 and ends all the way down on the second level) (timeline shows context, which was pretty smart of them!) (ok enough brackets hahaha)

i was really really impressed!

last couple of days in brussels,

i realised i had these, and forgotten about it when i uploaded the set on brussels earlier, but yea, we also went to the royal park which was really HUGE and pretty.

there were not many people and everyone was all spread out. it would be nice to have a picnic with your family here, on the pretty green grass.

the flea market was also rather epic. it was so huge and had so many things from test tubes to good working analog cameras to old leather bags and shoes.

i got myself a mechanical watch for 20 euros which was alright i guess, but there was this working braun table clock which i wished i had bought now!

the last photo is a picture of the balcony of my host! his house was niceeee.. he was born in africa and it was all african inspired. photos of africa, stuffed animals, his favourite animal is an elephat! it was really so nice, but i should ask his permission first if i wanna upload photos of his house. but anywho, i hope you like my sets of belgium!

tshuss!

antwerp, belgium

another beautiful, city of belgium.

i liked it alot here, they have some nice old architecture with a sort of modern twist. you see all the new shops and brands within these old, but beautiful buildings.

it was just me and the korean dude, we packed sandwiches from breakfast so we saved some money on lunch and walked all the way to the river and just sat there, talked, had sandwiches with some music for about an hour or so before we walked back to the station.

oh and the station was really pretty! it wasnt really huge huge, but the main hall was really incredible, it looks like it should be some church or something..

the old lady in the last photo looks so cute in her blue coat.

ghent, belgium

another beautiful city in belgium. i went there with 2 guys, one from korea and the other, russian, we all were couchsurfing with the same host!

it was a nice little city ghent, its apparently the city with the most university students in belgium. we walked around through the city and ended up doing a 50 minute canal ride which was perfect.

we saw most of the important places around the city, with proper english explanation!

oh and for the second last photo, we went in the ‘tunnel of love’! hahaha!

brussels, belgium.

a couple of weeks ago i spent my weekend in belgium, couchsurfed 3 nights in brussels and did day trips to ghent and antwerp. belgium is a pretty country, especially when you’re on the train and you see the wide open green fields, nicely maintained and groups of livestocks here and there with the little houses.

and the chocolates were so expensive! i love chocolates but at the same time im pretty broke so the closest thing to chocolates were the famous ‘belgian waffles’! they were really good though, but you cant have too much. the waffle itself had caramel or sth on it plus you add icecream and chocolates! whoa!

Liège-Guillemins Railway Station,

Liège, Belgium.

on the way to brussels, i had to switch trains at this station. the moment i stepped out of the old train from aachen, i was like “WHOA”. it was really pretty and all new. probably the nicest one ive seen so far in europe.

and there were not many people as well. after walking around abit and taking photos, i went down and saw a man, he had a beard, sporting a golf hat and a brown blazer with relaxed grey pants and a simple leather slip-on.

and subhanAllah, he was reading the quran. he was
probably late twenties or early thirties. and with God’s permission, He made me went up to him to give the salaam.

his name was abdul haqq, he spoke very little english, but we still managed to communicate with the very little english he knew and the even littler arabic that i knew.

he was going to take the same train as me so we talked the entire time till we reached our destination in brussels. he had a wife, and two children and was looking for a job in brussels. and subhanAllah, what i love about him was his mannerisms, the way he spoke and his attitude about life.

the constant remebrance of Him and trust in His plans. he shared hadiths and reminded me about the importance of us muslims to always be one. how we should always uphold the Sunnah of our Beloved Prophet, keeping the beard, using the siwak etc. reminded me about death, and that every soul shall one day taste death. reminded me about how us muslims, though from different parts of the world are brothers, one.

when i asked him if he had facebook or email, he said no he did not have one because he is afraid of the maksiah and the fitnah surrounding these mediums of modern interaction.

the way he had a smile on his face and the beautiful character when i see him interacting with some passengers on the train, subhanAllah.

it has really been a tough, spiritually i have to be honest, living in europe. back at home, it was easy, we take all these for granted. if you wanted to pray asar when you are out, you can easily find a mosque wherever you are or find a place in a stairwell of a mall. you have halal food at every corner and there are always many classes and majlis that you can attend to boost your spirituality and iman every week.

dua for me, and my brother abdul haqq, and for your family and friends and all the muslims in the world, that Allah continues to shower us with the many blessings, of food and water, of shelter and clothes, and to give us strength in iman to overcome our greatest enemy, which is the shaitan and our nafs. to grant us patience through hard and testing times, and to make us in constant remembrance of Him. may Allah also make it easy for us to make our lips wet with the constant praise of Him and His beloved Prophet, and to grant us beautiful character and mannerisms when dealing with people and animals, and may Allah also make it easy for us in everything that we do. and also, may Allah grant us great iman to always believe and have faith in His plans.

this reminder is especially for me, and I thank Allah that He has allowed me to think about this and contemplate about such things. always remember Him, always act in the best of character even with non muslims, everyone really and never look down on anyone, because who are we in the first place to judge someone when we were nothing to begin with.

haha whoa ive said alot! if you have read all the way though, i hope whatever i said helped, and if there is something that displeases you with my words, i would like to apologise.

the good things you’ve heard from me is all from Allah and the mistakes are mine.

Peace, Assalamualaikum! :)

Big Air Package, Oberhausen

by
Christo and Jeanne-Claude.

today we headed down to oberhausen for this exhibit of the artist christo. it was really impressive. on the lower level, below the huge air package, there was an exhibit of their works before, with the photos all blown up, on walls, and also hanging on metal wires.

i really like their stuff man. they’re all so large scale, beautiful, controversial.

the huge air package was like a giant happy place i wish i could have all by myself.. if anyone of you are in the area, check it out really. plus there’s the largest mall in europe nearby. haha.

a day in Köln,

i remember the first time i was in the train leaving the station, looking at the huge cathedral by the side of the station going “Whoaaaaaa….”.

after keukenhof, i went back to essen with farhan, spent a day bringing him around my little essen town and spent the next day at the saturday market (which was awesome! i got a pair of sneakers for 4 euros and a nice book for the same price as well) after which we headed down to koln!

it was nice hanging out with farhan, it was especially nice speaking malay after not using it for so long. we didnt go much, just hung around the area, sat and talked about stuff, mostly because we were tired of walking around so much the days before..

and yea,
Köln is pretty neat! and i prolly will spend this weekend not travelling. maybe just to oberhausen on sunday for the huge air structure exhibit thingy.. we’ll see, insyaAllah.

flowers of keukenhof,

the Netherlands.

i have never seen so many flowers in my life, subhanAllah. it is the largest flower garden in europe and apparently the world!

i spent hours wandering the garden, getting lost a couple of times and it was really nice. some of the flowers i have never ever seen in my life, it was really something. alhamdulillah!

if any of you have the chance to go, go! it only opens for 2 months in a year when the flowers bloom and alhamdulillah when i was there i think all of them were blooming beautifully.
